Get Help Applying for Government Aid

Applying for federal grants and loans may feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help!

Starting this process early will help ensure your financial aid is ready by the time your tuition is due. We recommend starting at least two months before the semester begins.

To learn more about the process and resources available to you, review each of the steps below.

Types of Aid

You need to complete the FAFSA for the following types of aid.

Receiving Federal Financial Aid at Ensign College

Every school has slightly different processes for notifying students and awarding financial aid. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our financial aid office.

  • Basic Eligibility Criteria for Federal Financial Aid
    Students must:

    • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
    • Be a U.S. Citizen or  eligible non-citizen;
    • Have a valid Social Security Number (SSN);
    • Exceptions include residents of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau
    • Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program;
    • Maintain  Satisfactory Academic Progress

    More About Eligibility

  • What is the FAFSA?

FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It determines whether you are eligible for federal grants and loans, and may be required for some private scholarships.

Get the link to the application and more information about submitting it to Ensign on our FAFSA page .

  • Checking Your Ensign College Email

    Check your Ensign College email:

    1. Go to  https://mail.ensign.edu.
    2. When prompted, enter your Church username and password.
    3. If you have any issues accessing your email, contact the Ensign College Help Desk at 801-524-8119.

    All Official Notifications

The Financial Aid Office will send all official notifications to your Ensign College email. We recommend that students check this email frequently to avoid missing important messages from the school. Texting is also an option for some communications if a student “opts in” in the Financial Aid Forms Portal.

Emails include important information such as instructions on next steps or your financial aid offer.

If You Need to Email US...

All email correspondence between Ensign College students and our office must be done via your student email address. We follow this practice to ensure compliance with FERPA laws, which protect you and your information.

    • Documents can be submitted with e-signatures.
    • Financial aid students can do their financial aid submission 100% virtually.

      Financial Aid Forms Portal

    Ensign College Needs Your SSN

    • If you have a "To Do List” item asking for your Social Security Number (SSN), you will need to fill out a form to have your SSN added to Ensign College’s records.
    • This is required before any financial aid can be processed.
    • To submit your SSN request, visit  https://www.ensign.edu/forms  and click the “+” next to Registration Office Forms.
    • Fill out the Change of Personal Information form – electronic submission is available!

    Did You Get My Documents?

Once you submit documentation, it may take a few business days to be processed. During that time, your tasks and checklists may still show as initiated; however, they will be updated as soon as your documentation has been reviewed.

Keep an eye on your “To Do List” or in your Forms Portal, and the tasks will disappear once they have been addressed.

    Selected for Verification?

Some students are selected for a process called verification. Visit the FAFSA Verification Information page for more information about this process.

    To accept your loan:

    • Log in to  MyEnsign.
    • Navigate to Self Service> Campus Finances> Accept/Decline Awards.

    Report Outside Assistance

will need to report if you are receiving educational assistance such as scholarships or grants from a source other than federal aid or Ensign College.

According to federal regulations, the financial aid office may need to adjust your federal awards if changes in your eligibility occur due to the receipt of an additional resource.

    To report assistance received:

    • Log in to  MyEnsign.
    • Navigate to Self Service> Campus Finances> Report Aid from Other Sources.
    • Fill out and submit the form.

    Authorize Charges

    To authorize charges:

    • Log in to  MyEnsign.
    • Navigate to Self Service> Campus Finances> View Student Permissions.
    • You can choose to authorize or not authorize charges.

If you choose not to authorize charges, paying for charges (other than tuition) will be your responsibility. Failure to pay the remaining charges will affect future term enrollment.

  • Before Receiving Your Funds

Financial aid will not disburse* until the following occurs:

    1. All “To Do List” items in MyEnsign are complete.
    For loans, you must complete:

    2. You have accepted your financial aid offer.

    • Loans only - the Pell Grant does not need to be accepted.

    3. You meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.

    4. You are enrolled in classes (6 credits minimum to receive loans).

    5. Disbursements have begun for the semester

*A disbursement is when your financial aid funds are released into your student account to pay tuition and possibly other charges.

    When Are Disbursements?

Disbursements for the semester usually start two to three business days before the first day of the semester and continue weekly during the semester.

    Refunds

    • Students with excess funds after their federal aid has been disbursed will be issued a refund.
    • Students receive either a physical check or direct deposit. Physical checks are the default option unless the student signs up for direct deposit before disbursement.
    • Physical checks typically take 5 business days after disbursement to be ready for pickup. The cashier’s office will email when the check is available and will also offer to mail the check.
    • Direct deposit is typically ready 3 business days after disbursement. Students must sign up for direct deposit before the disbursement, or the refund will default to a physical check. To sign up, please contact the Cashier’s office on how to do so.

    Pell Grant Recalculation

    • Pell grant is awarded based on the credits you enroll in for the semester.
    • If your enrollment changes, your Pell will be adjusted.
    • Adjustments take place up until the Financial Aid Determination (FAD) date.
    • To view the FAD date, see the Calendar .

    Pell Recalculation Example

Pell Grant is calculated based on the SAI (a number calculated on your FAFSA) and the number of enrolled credits. Pell adjusts depending on the number of credits a student is enrolled in. If you are enrolled in 12 or more credits, you will receive the same amount of Pell Grant. Enrolling in fewer than 12 credits means you will receive a different amount depending on how many credits you are enrolled in.
For example, if you are originally enrolled in 15 credits and drop a 3-credit class and stay enrolled in 12 credits, the amount of Pell Grant you receive would be the same. If you were enrolled in 15 credits and dropped two 3-credit classes and stayed enrolled in 9 credits, the amount you receive would decrease.

  • Maintaining Eligibility

Students should be aware of the following to keep and continue receiving federal aid:

    • Satisfactory Academic Progress  (SAP)
    • Carefully consider all options before dropping or withdrawing from one (or all) courses.
    • Different types of aid may have unique eligibility requirements.
    • Repeated classes may not be eligible.

    Satisfactory Academic Progress

To remain eligible to receive federal financial aid, you must do the following:

    • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
    • Complete 67% of the credits you attempt
    • Finish your degree/certificate within 150% of the total minimum credits required for the program

View our SAP Policy for more detailed information about this requirement.

    Dropping or Withdrawing

Dropping or withdrawing from classes may affect your financial aid.

    • Unearned credits could lead to a reduction in aid received for the semester.
    • This may also lead to losing aid eligibility for future semesters.
    • We encourage you to talk to the financial aid office before you drop or withdraw from a course.
    • View the  withdrawals page  for more detailed information about this requirement.

    Types of Aid

Different types of aid may have unique eligibility requirements. For more information, see the links below.

    Repeated Courses

There are limits on when a student can receive aid for a repeated course.

    • If a course has been repeated twice with a passing grade, you cannot receive aid for the third attempt.
    • If a course has been repeated with only non-passing grades, you can repeat the same course and receive federal financial aid until a passing grade or better is earned for the class.
    • SAP standards must still be maintained.
